Sugar Shack

It seems like this is turning into a food blog, but we have gotten lucky with some delicious restaurants lately.  So one more food post, and then I promise I will post about other exciting Michigan discoveries.

We spent this past Saturday in Marshall, which I have posted about here, here, and here.  While wondering around town we decided since the weather felt like spring it was important we get some ice cream cones.  A local store owner informed us that the Sugar Shack would be the best, and she was correct.  It was a cute old fashioned candy store with buckets of colorful sweets and Mooville Ice Cream- exactly what we were looking for!

The Dark Horse Brewery

We always have so much fun visiting The Dark Horse Brewery in Marshall.  Awesome service, food, and beer.  It doesn't get much better than that!  The Dark Horse is so welcoming and I love that if you are part of the mug club you have your very own mug hanging from the ceiling.  It does get rather busy on the weekends and around dinner so be warned that it is not the best place for a quiet meal, but you can't beat the atmosphere for some hometown fun!

More of Marshall

Here are some other great places we visited in Marshall.  The town is such an awesome mix of historic buildings, shopping, and delicious restaurants.  My personal favorite stop for lunch-- Schuler's (pictured below.) Enjoy!

Check out the great Christmas decorations from Mr. Mole's.  It made me SO excited for the holidays.  Mr. Mole's also has so many thoughtful gifts.  We spent far too much time wondering around the store and deciding who would love to see each gift underneath their Christmas tree.

The Honolulu House

We spent Saturday in Marshall and realized there is so much to discover in the small town.  I was totally intrigued by the Honolulu House.  The building sits on a corner at the very end of the downtown district and its unique architecture makes it almost impossible to miss.

The Honolulu House was built in 1860 by chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, Abner Pratt.  Pratt moved to Michigan from Hawaii and built a replica of his home from the islands.  The house stays true to tropical architecture, contains a beautiful circular staircase, and the walls and ceilings are adorned with morals depicting the Hawaiian tropics.  The Honolulu House is open for tours from May- October and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We peeked into every possible window, but are  looking forward to taking a full tour next summer!
